A judge put Glenville back in the football playoffs, and OHSAA plans to appeal

If you follow Cuyahoga County high school football, Glenville is back in the playoffs for now. Judge Andrew J. Santoli ruled Tuesday that the Ohio High School Athletic Association removed the “arbitrarily” because it acted before its investigation was complete.

Glenville went out of the playoffs and back in within a week

  1. Oct. 22 receives the first batch of residency information on Glenville players.
  2. Oct. 29OHSAA removes Glenville from the Division III, Region 9 playoffs.
  3. Oct. 30A court grants Glenville a temporary restraining order.
  4. Nov. 3Judge Santoli rules OHSAA acted arbitrarily and keeps Glenville in the playoffs.
  5. Nov. 4OHSAA says it will appeal in Cleveland and share Salem's opponent.
  6. Nov. 6Salem is scheduled to host its playoff game at Sebo Stadium.

said it will appeal in Cleveland on Wednesday, though it agrees the court can’t decide who plays. Salem, which still doesn’t know its Friday opponent, is scheduled to host the winner, and OHSAA says more information comes Wednesday.

  • Region: Division III, Region 9; Glenville is the No. 5 seed
  • Santoli’s options: replay, forfeit and advance Glenville, or another remedy
  • OHSAA says 63 of 64 roster players don’t attend Glenville

In testimony, OHSAA’s Kristin Ronai said 25 of Glenville’s 64 players were shown not to live closest to the school. After follow-up documents, 10 still had nothing to verify eligibility. Cleveland Metropolitan School District staff had joined OHSAA on a Zoom call before the removal.
